Bacon Almond Chocolate Brittle

Filed Under: Dessert, Proteins, Recipes Tagged With: bacon almond chocolate brittle, bacon candy, cooking, hunk of meat Monday, protein 10 Comments

Mixing bacon with almond brittle and chocolate? My husband’s instant reaction after tasting was “awesome”. My son’s first reaction before tasting was “gross”. Then after he tasted it, his response changed to “awkward but good”.  On Food Buzz last week I noticed the “flavor of the month” was bacon. The recipe for Bacon Almond Brittle caught my eye and I shared…

For Your Easy Brunch: Go-To Ham Egg Bake

Filed Under: Recipes Tagged With: brunch, Dakin Farm, easy family recipe, Iron Chef Challenge, recipe 9 Comments

In the midst of chaos on the weekends, you’ll often find me in the kitchen on a Saturday night making an easy egg bake with ham and cheese. Egg bake recipes are often similar and I have modified many times over to figure out what works best so they aren’t runny, have the right amount of…

Grow Your Own

Do you grow your own food?  If I had to solely grow my own food to feed my family, I would be in dire straits.  We would be eating a lot of dandelion salad this time of year. But now that our late Spring has finally arrived in North Dakota, I am doing my best to start and grow vegetables. …

Filed Under: Uncategorized Leave a Comment

A long time ago…back in the “90’s”,  my entire focus in life was to get a Division I track scholarship to throw the discus.  “A goal is a dream with a deadline” was written on a notecard on my bathroom mirror.  The goal was the scholarship and it was my dream. I had a cut-throat coach who trained us year…

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
