4 Generations of Basketball Fans

On Saturday night, Hunter played in a “big town”, 85 miles from our home in a local civic center. “Big” refers that they have Wal-Mart and a McDonald’s, which allowed me to eat my first McRib in 20 years and drink an egg nog shake. More important than pop culture that I sometimes miss on the prairie, there was a…

Hunk of Meat Monday: Traditional Meatballs Recipe

Filed Under: Proteins, Recipes Tagged With: cooking, hunk of meat Monday, protein 2 Comments

Meatballs and mashed potatoes are staples in family meals on the prairie. They aren’t sexy and probably frowned upon by many food snobs. But I was raised with them. It is comfort food and I love them. When we were in Disney World’s Epcot at a princess dinner in “Norway”, traditional meatballs were on the menu. Naturally we had to…

WW linky: Simple Snow Fence Building

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota Tagged With: North Dakota, winter, wordless Wednesday 3 Comments

If you build it, maybe…the snow won’t come. That’s a great theory. This week, my husband and son set out to build a snow fence to keep from snow drifts clogging up our road. It’s best to be prepared for future pending snow fall..and blizzards. As my husband informed me, “Katie, you don’t just put up a snow fence and…

My journey as a mother has always been intertwined with work since age 20 when I had full time work hours combined with getting my college education while being a mom to a two year old. I’ve had breaks along the way, maternity leaves and wonderful vacations, like the above picture when Miss E snapped my photo at Disney World…

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
