I promised I would share a few recipes of the 20 meals I have made ahead of time and froze this month for our family evening meals. For full disclosure, I am a family style cooking mom who is simply trying to put solid meals on the table for my family to sit down together in the evening. My meals…

WW Linky: (Proud) Parent’s Night

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota, Small Town Sports Tagged With: North Dakota, prairie, prairie life, rural life 8 Comments

The 8th grader was called first tonight. He had a blue flower for me. We made our way down the bleachers to the floor for parent’s night. There were hugs and photos. Last night I dashed out early from a meeting to get to parent’s night on time, only for Hunter to text me en route to say “Sorry Mom….

Visiting our old friend & new neighbor

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota Tagged With: North Dakota, prairie, prairie life, rural life 6 Comments

Snow fell on the south central prairie of North Dakota today. But there was no stopping our Sunday afternoon drive. Miss E was determined to see our old friend from our GriggsDakota family farm who now lives 30 miles down the road from us.  Sheyenne came to live in GriggsDakota when Hunter was a little boy. This year our friends,…

It’s late afternoon or maybe you’re driving home from work, picking up kids from daycare or a practice, regardless, it’s been a long day and you don’t have anything planned for dinner, supper…your evening meal. Mac and Cheese, frozen pizza, take out if you have it near you…unlike us, are easy to do options. But…a family meal to sit down…

Generations of family birthdays

Filed Under: America's Farm Table, Family Values Tagged With: agriculture, birthdays, family, family farm, milestones 2 Comments

Growing up I was surrounded by generations of family. I had a vague understanding that my friends didn’t have this same set up in their family. But I was generally self consumed and unaware at how unique my childhood was. January birthdays were celebrated as if we were royalty. First my birthday on the 6th, then Great-Grandpa Odin’s on the…

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
