Some Gave All…Saluting Our Veterans Today

My brother Robbie, son Hunter and Grandpa Sonny It is the VETERAN, not the preacher, who has given us freedom of religion. It is the VETERAN, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the VETERAN, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer, who…

Peek At The Peaceful, Tranquil Prairie

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota, Motivated Moms Tagged With: prairie life, working mom 3 Comments

You might not understand where exactly we live when I say “prairie”. It’s stunningly native and authentically prairie land. Not urban. Not necessarily prime tillable farming land.  It’s ranch land and there is of course plenty of farm land too that generations have farmed.  I find the vastness of the prairie to be tranquil and peaceful. I love the prairie…

Football Dreams Come True

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota Tagged With: athletics, football 2 Comments

When you live on the prairie, the closest professional teams are located hundreds of miles from your home. But anyone and everyone has their favorite teams.  For our family, it’s the Minnesota teams. Since we are in the heart of the NFL season, we are diehard Minnesota Vikings fan. For Hunter’s entry into his teenage years on his August birthday,…

Garden Tomato Venison or Beef Chili

Filed Under: Fruits, Proteins, Recipes Tagged With: beef, chili, deer hunting, freezing tomatoes, fruit, North Dakota, venison 3 Comments

I managed to grow bushels and bushels of tomatoes this year with little to no care or tomato growing skills. They were planted late, displaced, relocated from landscaping and still survived. As temperatures cooled in September I picked box loads of green tomatoes and left them to ripen in the mud room. Little did I know we would have an…

Wordless Wednesday: The Best Homemade Cookies

Filed Under: Dessert, Recipes Tagged With: baking, cookies, Halloween, holidays 3 Comments

In the past, Hunter and I have baked cut-out sugar cookies from my Aunt Angie’s recipe. We didn’t get it done in October. Thankfully, last week when I was in Sacramento this box arrived in the mail for our kids. Bakery purchased you ask? Absolutely not.  They were fresh baked from Auntie Lori’s kitchen in Minnesota. Her precision surgeon hands…

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
