Thankful Thursday: 3 Cash lessons for our teenager

Filed Under: Family Values Tagged With: life lessons, teenager, thankful 5 Comments

With the onset of his teenage years, we’ve been trying to teach our son the value of money. Nathan and I both had the bar set high with our parents being fiscally responsible and teaching us strong lessons. Despite strong lessons, both of us floundered in our financial independence at times, especially in our 20’s. Thankfully we managed to pull…

Wordless Wednesday Linky: Back where I come from…

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota, Small Town Sports Tagged With: prairie life 11 Comments

It’s Wordless Wednesday and below is a linky for you to join. But first let’s see the classy prairie. I show you beautiful prairie, my smiling kids but sometimes we need an honesty shot. You need to see the real prairie living.  Because back where I come from… this is the “honeymoon shack” (read the fine print). I can’t claim…

Brown Sugar Baked Oatmeal Recipe

Filed Under: Breakfast, Grains, Recipes Tagged With: brown sugar baked oatmeal, cooking, Gooseberry Patch cookbooks 8 Comments

Today I unveiled a new breakfast recipe at our house via Gooseberry Patch’s Comfort Foods. I’m giving away one copy of this cookbook in a few weeks through the Real Farmwives of America. But first I am cooking my way through the cookbook. My family couldn’t be happier. It kicks me out of my summer time cooking rut and lull….

Why my Klout score falls & why I’m more effective from it

Professionally, I work in communications. I know about social media measurement tools. I don’t implement a majority of what I learn, know or strategize about professionally on this blog because I want this blog to stay what it started as and has evolved into, a personal blog sharing about family, food, farming, freedom and faith.  But I can’t help but…

What are your easy wearing wardrobe tips?

Filed Under: Motivated Moms Tagged With: working mom 15 Comments

I don’t have time for fashion.  But I love to have clean, professional, fashion forward look for my work wardrobe. I don’t have time to spend time shopping.  But I love shopping. I need fast shopping which usually leads to online and I need tall sizes or long lengths for my 6’0″ figure. For quick trips this time of year…

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
