The Easter Bunny rolled into town today. It’s warm, sunny and Santa got his bike to give the bunny a ride to our small town park. The Easter Bunny and a few local helpers including Nathan and me hid 1000 filled plastic eggs around the park. The eggs were filled with candy and prizes by local nursing home and assisted…

5 life lessons Marilyn Hagerty should’ve taught you

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota Tagged With: North Dakota, prairie, rural life 6 Comments

The Marilyn Hagerty news stories have dwindled. Her limelight is fading. But she shouldn’t be forgotten in the waning winds of social media. It was reported yesterday that “Marilyn Mania is not fading” by the Grand Forks Herald but I know it will. There are talks of book deals and next week Anderson Cooper will visit with her on television….

Crock-Pot pineapple pork roast recipe

Filed Under: Proteins, Recipes Tagged With: cooking, hunk of meat Monday, protein 3 Comments

I turned on the Crock-Pot at our house at 5:45AM this morning. For 11 hours a 7 lb. pork roast slow cooked. It was an easy Hunk of Meat Monday that I wanted to share. The pork roast is large. It was on sale and very affordable. Thawed, I cut it in half and placed it in the Crock-Pot. I…

He asked me to buy him some “work clothes” when we relocated to his hometown and he started working alongside his father in their family owned and operated lumber yard and…

Spring birding sounds on the North Dakota prairie

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota Tagged With: North Dakota, prairie, prairie life, rural life 3 Comments

I captured 25 seconds of the sounds of the birds from our driveway yesterday morning. If you listen closely you’ll hear geese honking, a pheasant cackle and a beautiful Spring bird song. If there are any birding fans, I’d love to know what I am actually listening to. We live in the flyway zone and the “Prairie Pothole” region of…

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
