Aneta Turkey Barbeque with Grandpa

Filed Under: Uncategorized Tagged With: family, rural life 4 Comments

Recently, I drove around Aneta, N.D. on a golf cart with my 91-year-old grandpa, Oscar during Aneta’s 56th annual turkey barbeque. I like to say Aneta is a town of 250 people, 50 of whom are in the nursing home, which is the town’s largest employer.  The community comes together every year to slow roast turkeys over hot coals. This…

Boston Family Vacation

Filed Under: Family Values Tagged With: family fun, travel 2 Comments

We are in Boston for our first family SUMMER vacation. Nathan did most of the planning in the early winter. Together we both threw out cities as ideas and areas we visited in past business travel or childhood family vacations. We chose a Boston family vacation. It’s a place neither of us have traveled to as adults and offers an array of…

I took a month off…

Filed Under: Family Values Tagged With: family, loss, prairie life, random act of kindness, sharing your voice 1 Comment

We never get to take a month off of living life but a few of you are starting to get worried now that I’ve taken a month off of blogging. It was purposeful and I am starting to blog again. After Anika’s accident I needed to spend extra time with her. Then it was huge preparations for Hunter’s graduation, the…

An accident, ambulance ride & recovery

Filed Under: Family Values 8 Comments

This past Sunday afternoon, I convinced my daughters to take a “ten minute nap” with me before we went outside to plant our gardens and pot flowers. Elizabeth didn’t close her eyes and as soon as the ten minutes were up she was rallying her sister, Anika and me to get up for planting time. The girls got up and…

A senior prom on the prairie

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota Tagged With: kids, milestones, rural life 2 Comments

Hunter attended his fourth and final prom, his senior prom. Proms on the North Dakota prairie are simpler and smaller than larger towns and cities. There are not expensive restaurant reservations to book. There are not limousines to rent cruising around our small town. The grand march, dance and post-prom party are all held in the school gymnasiums. No pictures…

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
