Quiet day on the farm

Filed Under: Family Values Tagged With: children, family farm Leave a Comment

It is a quiet Saturday on the farm. The cool and rainy weather has the guys in from fieldwork. Planting is finally complete but spraying is next. With a Saturday off, Uncle Joe gave Anika a walk around to meet Sheyenne and see the tractors in the yard. Elizabeth has showing cattle in her jeans and definitely is practicing on…

Surviving to grow in your faith

Filed Under: America's Farm Table, Family Values Tagged With: agriculture, faith, family, farm 6 Comments

Ten years ago today, my brother Robbie was in a terrible farm accident. He was 15 years old. And every year on June 9th, I call him or blog about the miracle that he survived. My mom also talks about Robbie today on GriggsDakota. It is an anniversary that we will always gratefully celebrate as a family. This year I…

Camping & fishing

Late tonight when I step off the airplane after a whirlwind of business travel this week, I won’t drive home. Instead I will weave across the prairie to find my family nestled away in a bay along the Missouri River. Camping and fishing are two summer activities that my husband loves. He grew up doing both and our kids will have…

Happy Home Anniversary

Two years ago today, we loaded up our boxes (again) and moved into our unfinished but livable new house.  See here where we were then. The move and the house both were huge steps for us. Just eleven months earlier we had jumped off the corporate wheel, took a drastic cut in income, loaded up boxes and moved west deep…

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
