Should I be at #SheSpeaks15?

Filed Under: Faith Tagged With: faith 1 Comment

Today my daughters and I drove 100 miles from Greenville, South Carolina, where we have been visiting my longtime ago college roommate, Katie Barnett and her family. We drove to Concord, North Carolina for She Speaks, a Christian women’s writing and speaking conference through Proverbs 31 ministries. Leg one is a big Southern adventure for the girls and me, a…

What Should We Name Two Pinke Puppies?

Filed Under: DogLife Tagged With: PuppyLove 4 Comments

It was a weak parenting moment. Across the way from our camping lake place we could see little yellow lab puppies all over in our neighbor’s yard on the morning of the 4th of July. Anika, our youngest, who turned six years old days before wants only to be a veterinarian in life, immediately wanted to dash for them. Instead…

Dalton First Responders: The Godly rest of the story

Filed Under: Family Values Tagged With: faith 3 Comments

I have a weekly column, every Saturday on Agweek. It has been a weekly discipline for me to write. Last week in the midst of mourning and grieving the loss of the Kvalvog boys it was difficult for me to write anything that was tailored to the 4th of July and Independence Day.  After seeing the Dalton, Minnesota First Responders at the…

Joy in Tragedy

Miss July is age six today. Anika, our youngest child, will celebrate at home, as an “only child” while her sister wraps up Bible camp and her brother finishes cleaning out grain bins on the farm and plays in a baseball game. Last night she snuggled up to me and said, “So this is what it was like with only…

Ladies Night on a North Dakota farm

Filed Under: America's Farm Table, Life in North Dakota, Women In Ag Tagged With: family farm, farm, North Dakota, prairie life, rural life, Women in Ag 1 Comment

I’ve heard it more than a hundred times, growing up and living “in the middle of nowhere.” There is nothing to do in North Dakota. But to me, this place is somewhere and no matter where you live, I think you create your experiences and definition of something to do. In a world of technology at our fingertips often times…

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
