Hunk of Meat Monday: Turkey & Garden Tomato Spaghetti Sauce

Filed Under: Proteins, Supper, Vegetables Tagged With: cooking, gardening, hunk of meat Monday, protein, tomatoes 5 Comments

Spaghetti is my go-to, get it done, fast family meal. It involves just a few key ingredients and my kids can help me. From start to finish we can get it done in less than 30 minutes if needed.
Start with tomato sauce. I frozen sauce last fall with my garden tomatoes. Or just go for a jar of Ragu or cans of Hunt’s tomato sauce. Simmer the sauce in pot on the stove over low to medium.
Then I brown meat in a separate frying pan. Usually it’s lean beef hamburger and sometimes fresh ground pork. But this week it was turkey burger. I picked it up at the store on sale. Drain the meat and add to the tomato sauce.
Stir. Add…
seasonings.
I add 2 TBSP Penzey’s Pasta Sprinkle. A dash of salt and fresh ground pepper. 1 tsp. garlic powder. 1/4 cup of brown sugar. 1 TBSP. balsamic vinegar.
Then I add fresh mushrooms. Cover. Bring to a boil. Stir and then turn down to low to simmer while you boil the spaghetti noodles.
Boil water for your spaghetti noodles. We use whole wheat spaghetti noodles and it takes about 10 minutes to cook them once your water is to a rolling boil.
I was out of parmesan cheese and instead pulled out a white cheddar to top our spaghetti plates.
Someone had a different idea for what to do with the cheese.
This is why I need simple and fast plans to feed my family. I have a lot of help in the kitchen!

It’s simple, tasty and feeds my family in a cost efficient and yummy way.

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
