Hunk Of Meat Monday: 30 Minute Knoephla Soup

Filed Under: Family Values, Lunch, Recipes Tagged With: cooking with kids, hunk of meat Monday, Knoephla soup, protein 7 Comments

Knoephla Soup is a staple in our corner of the North Dakota prairie. Everybody has German heritage and most can be found making their own homemade dough for their Knoephla Soup.  But I am a transplant to my husband’s hometown on the prairie. I cheat to make this a hearty one-pot meal for my family that can happen quickly, like…

Prairie Poinsettia Killer

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota, Motivated Moms Tagged With: prairie life, working mom 6 Comments

Obviously, I’ve been a deer killer this week since I collided my vehicle with a whitetail buck early Wednesday. Now I am a poinsettia killer. There might be generations of prairie dwelling farmers and green thumbs in my genes but I can’t even keep a simple plant alive.  My late paternal grandmother Dorothy could keep poinsettias going all winter, spring…

5 Ways I Enjoyed My Day After Hitting A Deer

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota, Motivated Moms Tagged With: North Dakota, prairie life, wildlife, working mom 12 Comments

I hit a whitetail deer very early yesterday morning while driving through a neighboring town on my way to the airport.  I never made it to the prairie airport and certainly not to Phoenix for my 1PM meeting. My stomach flu stricken husband drove 30 miles and back to come pick me up at the one gas station in the…

Little Sisters As Big Brother’s Basketball Fans

Filed Under: Family Values, Small Town Sports Tagged With: athletics, family fun, sports 7 Comments

A few nights a week…as in tonight…our young girls, ages 18 months and 3 years attend their big brother’s basketball games. They would rather be at home pretend painting their nails. Even painting their daddy’s fingernails is more exciting than sitting still in the stands at a basketball game.  They could stay home as their mama’s hair needs quite a…

Hunk of Meat Monday: Buttermilk Beef Pot Roast

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota, Proteins Tagged With: hunk of meat Monday, North Dakota, prairie, protein, rural life 10 Comments

After our’s son basketball game last Thursday night we came home to enjoy a late supper of Buttermilk Beef Roast. It was a recipe I had glanced at in the Billings Gazette as we drove home from our Montana road trip and then of course I modified.  My goal when making any type of roast is to not turn it…

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
