It’s May Day.  Despite roaring winds, freezing temperatures and snowfall, we are making the most of it… in our Sunday best. Even Baby Ava accompanied Miss E to church in a matching appropriate Spring like dress.  The teenager isn’t in the photos but he brighten our May Day by playing piano in church for offertory.  Post church and Sunday School,…

Snow: Old Man Winter’s sense of humor?

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota Tagged With: North Dakota, North Dakota weather, prairie life, winter 8 Comments

Breaking news from the North Dakota prairie: It’s snowing. Old Man Winter has a sense of humor on the prairie. But we don’t think he’s very funny anymore. He’s like that guy at work that tells the same obnoxious joke repeatedly every time you see him. It’s like nails on the chalkboard on the last day of April.  But really?…

Track Meet, Prairie Lake & A Blizzard Warning

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota, Small Town Sports Tagged With: North Dakota weather, prairie life 4 Comments

Snow melt and Spring brought us a visit to the prairie lake this week. The girls love the lake and have awaited our routine visits with the late arrival of Spring. But no one loves the lake more than Charlie the dog child. The warmed prairie allowed our teenager to participate in the second of his life and second of…

How To Create Your Royal Name Before the Royal Wedding

Filed Under: Misc. Tagged With: pop culture, royal wedding 6 Comments

Photo from CBS NEWS I dreamed of once attending a Royal Wedding. As a young girl, I watched both Princess Diana’s and Sarah Ferguson’s weddings. I found both Prince Charles and Andrew to be a bore but the ladies were fascinating to me.  Early tomorrow I might opt for a little extra sleep and not watch the live Royal Wedding…

photo by Becky Koch, NDSU Agriculture Communication Yesterday I was standing at North Dakota State University talking social media holding a bag of California grown almonds and it caused me to stop and really think about my engagement in social media. How did I get here, talking about social media, community building and why on earth was I holding a…

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
