Ideal Reading for a 3 Year Old Farm Inspector

Filed Under: America's Farm Table, Family Values, Life in North Dakota Tagged With: agriculture, family, family farm, farming, North Dakota, prairie, rural life 4 Comments

My mom has appropriately named Miss E as the GriggsDakota Farm Inspector.
This is a role that our 3 year old daughter takes seriously.
Last night while giving Anika a snack I walked over to get Miss E from the living room where I thought she was playing with her baby doll “Ava” and I wanted her to come have her evening snack.

But she was too busy for a snack and she wasn’t playing with her doll.
She had important farm reading to do.
She flipped through every page, showing me pictures of tractors, hay equipment, corn and soybeans in the appropriately named publication, Corn and Soybean Digest.
Miss E especially liked the “funder and yightning” ad on the back cover.
I am immersed in agriculture every day in my work and life but haven’t actually thought about our family farm and the conversations around our kids impacting them at such a young age.
But they are impacted and it makes me smile to see.

Had a special place for the Charolais Banner & Prairie Farmer growing up – Dad forbid us to take any pictures from it before he read it! 🙂

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
