California meat girlfriend visits the prairie

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota Tagged With: friendship, North Dakota, prairie, prairie life, rural life 8 Comments

Tonight on the remote prairie of North Dakota we had a supper guest. Supper is dinner to those of you who don’t live in the upper Midwest. She traveled from California. She blogs about meat from her family owned business where she works 6 days a week, Chico Locker and Sausage. It’s Jenny Dewey. I know her from social media….

Old athlete’s life lessons

Filed Under: Family Values Tagged With: family fun 7 Comments

Any other mamas outside remember back to when they were athletes? In my mind, I am still an athlete. But I was humbled this past weekend and freshly reminded that I am an old athlete.  My feet don’t move very well. I am slow. My baskets don’t fall when I think they should. I am best when I am passing…

Beauty in painting rocks

Filed Under: Family Values Tagged With: family fun 7 Comments

T-shirt weather in early March is a rare treat on the prairie. Miss E and Miss A have had a friend to play with the past couple days and their first project together was collecting rocks outside and washing them. Then they got to work on the deck, painting rocks.  I once painted rocks with my lifetime friend Sara with…

Lightening the load with no schedule

Filed Under: Family Values Tagged With: family, family fun 10 Comments

Small businesses are key to our thriving economy in North Dakota but…the work load is heavy. It has my husband working long days, late nights and running in many directions. (He even washes the dishes in between the chaos of it all.) Carrying a heavy load takes it’s toll on anyone. I have wanted to do something for Nathan to…

Boldly sharing for the next generation

Filed Under: America's Farm Table, Family Values, Motivated Moms Tagged With: agriculture, family, family farm, farming, working mom 20 Comments

March 8th marks International Women’s Day and National Agriculture Day. They don’t run parallel. It’s not a coincidence to me. Women’s advancement connects directly into feeding our families and growing food. Five generations ago, a woman in my family was a pioneer on the prairie, widowed, living in a sod house with seven children. She farmed and worked as a…

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
