The attention grabbing headlines of the oil boom in North Dakota are sometimes glamourous and other times heart breaking. But the stories in between glamour and heart break are often missed. With growth comes prosperity for some and struggles for others in North Dakota. It’s a location that has been analyzed and ranked over and over again as a best place…

Our Favorite Farmer, Grandpa Fred

Filed Under: Family Values Tagged With: daddy, family, fatherhood 6 Comments

My favorite boot wearing farmer has a birthday today. It is my dad. I’ve said before that I’ve been trying to fill his big boots for decades. He’s witty. Ruthless at times. Generous. Often running behind schedule, a trait I inherited. Appreciative. A man of deep faith and commitment. A small businessman turned farmer in GriggsDakota.Aside from my dad being…

Food Stamps Mom Breaks Her Silence

Filed Under: Motivated Moms Tagged With: food stamps, motherhood, providing for your family 29 Comments

I didn’t look like food stamp mom, but for two critical years I was. You might have a preconceived idea of what a mom on food stamps looks like, where she lives, the mistakes she has made to get to this point in her life. Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
