Kelly Rivard: Country Nights, City Lights #WomenInAg

Filed Under: Uncategorized Tagged With: 30 Days, Women in Ag 15 Comments

Persistent. Passionate. Purposeful. Kelly Rivard is all three I have learned over the past four years. First, I was introduced to her via Twitter. Then, I interviewed her when she was a junior at North Central College in Illinois via Skype, as her roommate disrobed in the background, not knowing Kelly was on Skype. Kelly, wearing headphones, intently responding to…

Do you have an inner Hulk Hogan or Strawberry Shortcake? A look at favorite costumes.

Filed Under: Family Values Tagged With: family 2 Comments

Back in 1983, which earlier today I thought was 20 years ago but it took me until a brisk morning walk to realize 1983 was 30 years ago, I was Strawberry Shortcake. My mom made me the costume and the picture shown is me visiting my dad’s advertising agency office. My mom made me a few beautiful costumes through the…

Labels. We “give” them to each other—and even ourselves—based on gender, race, education, marital status, occupation, social class, address, religion, dietary choices, clothing and voting record.   Single. Married. Dual income without kids (Dinks as my friends classify themselves). Stay-at-home mom. Working mom. Housewife. Farmwife. Not a wife. Divorcee. Cohabitator. Dirt poor. Lower class. Middle class. Upper class. Millionaire. Christian….

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
