Saying Farewell To Charlie Dog

Filed Under: Small Town Living Tagged With: family, rural life 5 Comments

This past weekend while staying at our nearby prairie lake, I had an empty feeling, a tinge of loneliness, even though family surrounded me. What was I missing? It hit me while cleaning up after supper on Friday night. Then again on my Saturday morning walk, I felt it.  Charlie dog.  At the lake Charlie always followed me in the…

May You Have Marriage Milestones

Filed Under: Family Values, Small Town Living Tagged With: family, marriage, milestones Leave a Comment

Spring rains. Spring sunshine. We even had spring snow earlier this month. But more than the weather, the month of May brings marriage milestones for our family. The couples aren’t throwing themselves a party, and you won’t see their picture in their local newspapers. This past weekend, my parents, Fred and Jane, celebrated 40 years of marriage. This weekend, my in-laws,…

Agweek: Weekly Weekend Column

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota Tagged With: North Dakota, prairie life, rural life 1 Comment

While we were away on vacation last month, my new trial run weekly column debuted on Agweek.  I know. I don’t need one more thing to add to my full plate. But I’m piling it on. Agweek reached out to me and while I have learned to say no many times I decided to say yes to this opportunity. There are…

Throwing Away My Fertility: What Do You Need To Let Go?

Filed Under: Motivated Moms Tagged With: being a mom, family, motherhood, working mom 24 Comments

This year, I gave myself my Mother’s Day gift early. When my teenage son competed in the state music contest in a bigger city, his two little sisters and I ran to the store to buy all of the toiletry items we can’t buy in our prairie town of 1,000 or through Amazon Prime. Back at home, I decided to…

I Am Not Taking My Computer On Vacation

It’s come that time. For an annual vacation. It’s a crazy, wild ride when we launch to get away. We don’t have time. We can’t leave behind work. The kids will miss school.  But we need to get away. This is a tiny window that works for us. We have family that is home. Our house will be cared for….

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
