Strawberries Are Not GMO And How The Skimm Got It Wrong

Filed Under: America's Farm Table Tagged With: family farm 8 Comments

My favorite daily email is The Skimm. It gives me a quick overview on global headlines, links for more in-depth explanation and then a few pop culture happenings. I was sorting through a slew of emails today when I opened The Skimm email. I scrolled through to the bottom when I read about GMO’s. What was stated about GMO’s was false. Usually The…

on the minds of moms (and it’s my birthday)

Filed Under: Motivated Moms Tagged With: family, motherhood, sharing your voice 2 Comments

Half my life ago, my 18th birthday, I remember with great detail. I told my parents I was pregnant at the end of the day. I thought my good life was over, my dreams devastated. The coming weeks were to bring Division I university visits for me who were recruiting me to join their track and field team but I…

Photography For Christmas

Filed Under: Family Values, Motivated Moms Tagged With: family 2 Comments

In 1999, I needed some upper division liberal arts credits for my Communications major. I took a semester of photography and bought a Canon Rebel camera with film. It was hundreds of dollars which was paid for with weekends of waitressing tips, the second most expensive single item I had bought “by myself” at that point in my life. Second…

Filed Under: America's Farm Table 61 Comments

Need a last-minute gift idea that doesn’t require heading out to a crowded mall? It won’t result in any returns or exchanges. Instead of gifts, give cows. Through a group of friends, Rockin’ Rural Women on Facebook, we are raising funds to help Heifer International. Donate here. Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
