GMO, Non-GMO, Organic? I am a food choice mom.

Filed Under: America's Farm Table Tagged With: farming, where my food comes from 1 Comment

The more I analyze the abundance of food we enjoy in the U.S., the more I proclaim I’m a food choice mom. I was reminded of this self-appointed title in recent days as I organized and co-moderated a GMO discussion panel hosted by Cass County Farm Bureau. I prepared for an array of opinions from farmers, ag industry professionals and…

Our Adoption Story

Filed Under: Family Values Tagged With: family, motherhood 27 Comments

This morning, in the historic McIntosh County courthouse, our home county where about 2500 people live, Nathan officially adopted Hunter as his son. I’ve held my emotions in check and not until now as I sat at my computer to remember this day have all my emotions come blubbering out on the keyboard. For our family’s sake, I want to…

The most important titles I hold aren’t on a business card

Filed Under: Motivated Moms Tagged With: motherhood, working mom Leave a Comment

In the past decade, my roles as a professional and mother have been redefined more than half a dozen times. Like many do, I struggle to balance marriage, motherhood, work, schedules and everything else. I go hard. I sleep too little, and I don’t exercise enough. Regardless, I’m content with my out-of-balance life. I have many titles that don’t fit…

When losing a game answers your prayer…

On Friday night, high school football ended for our son and his team. If there had been a series of upsets and wins, there was still a chance we could have somehow made the playoffs. But that didn’t happen. For the first time in eight years, the South Border Mustangs are not in the playoffs. We lost 50-24 to an…

The Joy of 29 Thank-You Notes

Filed Under: Motivated Moms Tagged With: friendship, working mom 1 Comment

In late June, I received an email from a MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group coordinator in Bismarck asking me to speak at a fall event. The email couldn’t have come at a better time as we were heading home from the funeral service honoring our son’s dear friends Zach and Connor, who were killed in a car accident. Without much…

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
