dOur Miss A, Anika Iris Kathryn, turned two years old today. I have blogged her life since I announced my pregnancy on here and many of you feel a connection to Anika with out even meeting her. Amazing how blogs do that. Here is a brief photo recap of our special day. Starting with this fun pillow I purchased on…

Lutheran Basement Ladies Serve Pie

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota Tagged With: North Dakota, prairie, prairie life, rural life 6 Comments

Miss E has learned an important lesson this summer while joining the ranks of Lutheran basement ladies. You see Lutheran ladies serve pie… in the small town basement…of a church or community auditorium to raise money for their local church programs. Specifically, for Sundahl Lutheran, in Aneta, North Dakota, the ladies raise money for their women’s group. The deal is…

Wordy Wednesday: Always our baby & a favor

It’s Wordless or Wordy Wednesday and below is a link up and blog hop for you to connect with today. I am a little more wordy than wordless today. After bike riding, park playing, train riding, zoo watching, Storybook Land touring, Miss A settled in for an afternoon for a nourishing big drink of chocolate milk on Saturday afternoon. With the sun blaring, she was hot and worn out. She specifically requested chocolate milk or in her nearly 2 year old vocabulary “chaca milk”. As she was drinking it…

Easy Bucket Centerpiece with Barley (Not Beer)

Filed Under: America's Farm Table Tagged With: agriculture, barley, bucket centerpiece, crafts, family farm 17 Comments

I am not a decorator and often lack creativity. When a small galvanized bucket arrived in the mail from Red Hill General Store, I needed an idea.  Fill it with golf balls as a gift for my husband? Fill it with milk and feed the farm kittens? Plant a flower in it? Have my daughters decorate it with paint and…

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
