Bo Peep, A Sheep, Hippie Teenager & Army Men

Filed Under: Family Values Tagged With: army men costume, family fun, Halloween, holidays, kids, teenagers 6 Comments

Yesterday Lil’ Bo Peep lost her sheep.

The teething, snotty nosed sheep was happy to be found and cooperatively followed Lil’ Miss Peep (which is the name Miss E called herself.)
While Lil’ Miss Peep and her sheep were playing together, there were other preparations going on around the house.
Hunter decorated the outside of the house with orange lights, cotton spider webs and carved two pumpkins.

Then Hunter transformed into a hippie.

Complete with Grandpa Fred’s authentic bell bottom pants and hand embroidered shirt, Hunter was an awesome hippie and second generation to wear these clothes. Every one of my siblings and me wore my dad’s 70’s attire for Halloween and now Hunter is wearing these sweet duds. Thanks to my mom for preserving them for decades!
Above are my favorite and beautiful Bo Peep, the cuddly sweet sheep and happy hippie.
Our favorite Halloween trick or treating friend, Miss Emerson was a candy corn and came over for a visit to see Bo Peep and the sheep.
On Saturday night, there was a community Halloween party with an (intense) costume contest. The girls had a sleepover with Nana and Grandpa Eldon so Hunter, Nathan and I could attend.
Our friend JK plotted and planned for months so a group of guys including my husband would have the best costumes and win the grand prize of $100 of community dollars.
Hours of preparation went into their costumes including a long night in the paint room at the lumberyard last week.
I heard a rumor that on the face paint bottle it said “is known to cause cancer in California”. Thankfully these men were safe on the North Dakota prairie.
The wives saluted our men.
(Another thanks to my mom bedazzling my $20 Ebay find of a costume. I couldn’t resist the pink sailor out fit and accessorized so I was the nurse among the group.)
The men prepared.
On the picture I noticed Nathan not wearing his gloves.

The key was the men were all green. Nathan got his gloves. These pictures don’t do their full scene justice because in the dark gym of our local civic center, they looked amazing! The kids at the party were enthused. The guys stole the show.

Every man still has their young boy love of army men they once played with and this was one fabulously fun outlet for the guys.
I can’t explain in words how much these guys fully enjoyed this and it was especially amusing to be their sidekicks.
But what are they going to be next year to top this and win?
They are already plotting and planning.

All of these costumes are so creative but I about died over the cuteness of Bo Peep and her sheep! OMG!! I love them. I was bo peep in second grade and won first place for my costume. It was my favorite out of all the years. And love your costume as well! Hot stuff!

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
