Gardening, Cinnamon & Laundry Battles

Filed Under: America's Farm Table, Family Values, Motivated Moms Tagged With: agriculture, family, gardening, growing crops, working mom 2 Comments

Blogging has taken a back seat for past few days. So get ready to read and view pictures on this soon to be long post.
As I have mentioned before we have two milestone anniversaries and a wedding all within twelve days right now. Those family events of course take a front seat while blogging gets left in the trunk.

Plus I am barely keeping my head above water with my work load…which is good business but it results it me NOT keeping my head above water in other aspects of our life. As Nathan says “is it always about laundry?” Yes, yes it is. I never can win with laundry. It always gets ahead of me. I like winning but I may never declare victory over laundry. My work day consists emails, social media, phone calls, video conferencing and meetings. Then my down time preferences include spending time chasing after our tornado of a daughter Miss E, (she was on her way to California on this picture…sitting still for a moment on her trip)
watching Anika change & develop more every day,
listening to Hunter practice piano (and actually see & visit with my husband.)
But today laundry is getting some attention. Only because I had planned to plant these…
until it rained & rained last night then a typical wind blew onto the prairie and left us inside for the day.
The gardening will have to wait. But I am excited to try to have a green thumb this year, despite our poor soil (we literally built our house on a gravel pile…as a child I learned a song in Sunday School about “don’t build your house on the sandy land” and will sing it often as a garden) and wind–and my lack of gardening knowledge. Nathan will be hauling and spreading black dirt like I am used to for the vegetable garden which will be a good starting point for us.
While we have been inside today I have finished my first ever movie creation to celebrate in-law’s Carol and Eldon’s 45th wedding anniversary tomorrow. It is not perfect but I am learning the technology with limited time. It makes Nathan tear up every time he watches it so I think it captures the emotion I was hoping for to celebrate their marriage and memories.
Being inside today also has left the kids with plenty of indoor play time…in their jammies.
I have organized a craft area for the kids in the basement. Elizabeth calls it her “project” area.
But she tends to drag it all upstairs to the kitchen floor. At least she is learning to entertain herself and is not glued to the television.
As I worked on laundry and the anniversary movie this morning, a mystery happened in our home.
My favorite Penzey’s cinnamon was left like this on the counter with a pile spilled across the floor. I had just made some cherry crumble dessert with it and not put all my ingredients away yet.
No one is confessing to the spilling the cinnamon crime.
But someone told me her hands smelled “gummy” (like Cinnamon chewing gum). Someone else also offered to help vacuum it up for me. So I have moved on from the cinnamon crime and now need to get back to my war on laundry.

Like I have said before, Hunter is such a good big brother!! That is awesome that he offered to vacum the cinnamon up.
I love that Elizabeth is going to California!! And I hear you on planting, wind and horrible soil!! Have a great weekend!!

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
