Lumberyard growth

Filed Under: Family Values, Small Town Living Tagged With: family business, Pinke Homes, small business owners 2 Comments

In case you have been out of touch with us during the past two years (rare if you are reading this blog)…the news flash is that Nathan jumped off the corporate wheel in July 07. He traded in suits, ties, weekly travel and corporate perks to take on the most fulfilling career, working alongside his dad in their family owned and operated lumber yard and general contracting business. He gets up early and goes to work in his Carhartt work pants now instead of Hugo Boss suits. He is home for lunch every day, dinner every night and at home with our children each night which is even more wonderful when I am traveling for my work. A true blessing of this change has been our family time. The other wonderful thing (so far) is the business has not experienced “economic slow down”. Nathan and his dad are busier than ever and this winter they have a lumberyard project. An addition to the 100+ year old building. It will be a showroom area for different styles of windows, flooring, cabinets, kitchen counter tops, etc. that we sell. It is hard for many customers to visualize all that we (I use the term “we” very loosely…as I am only the self-proclaimed pro-bono marketing director and can draw or estimate nothing but I can always SELL SELL SELL!) can do and sometimes they think it is easier for them to drive 100 miles to a competitor big box store instead and buy what they need from there. I think this going to be an awesome marketing tool for Pinke Lumber and more than anything I am proud of my father-in-law of the tremendous business and following his has built in this business and how Nathan has taken on this business in the past 20 months. Growth on the prairie is an amazing accomplishment in this day. So these pictures might not show much to you…especially since my camera is fuzzy…but what they do show is growth, progress and change. Exciting things for a small family owned business in rural North Dakota. I could not be prouder of our family, the business and being a part of the rural economy and lifestyle. It is all a part of the American dream. A dream Nathan and I certainly did not have or even consider just four years ago but now it our dream that we are living–and loving.

Right now we just have a “Alice in Wonderland” entrance to the addition from the main building. I will post finished pictures in the next month of the showroom area.

Gpa Eldon reading to Elissa yesterday afternoon. She loves books. And finally has an attention span to sit and read. She brings books to us and says “bok” and you ask “do you want to read this book?” And Elissa’s answer is always “Dep!” as she nods her head.

Okay here is my camera problem highlighted. My camera won’t focus! Any suggestions? I have reset everything to automatic settings. Still nothing. The battery is charged. Still no progress. I am desperate. Suggestions from all of you Digital SLR camera users would be much appreciated.

Fuzzy but still cute. Yes that is our dear daughter wearing her tutu and reading a book. She loves her tutu from Two Peas. (My friends Crystal and Geneva’s business) I’ll try to post video of her dancing in her tutu. I also have video to post of Hunter playing his trumpet in church yesterday. I’ll wrestle with technology and get that off our video camera and onto the blog this week.

Oh I can’t wait to come see everyone! Did I tell you that I am going to come down some time over my Srping break next week? Well, I am. I will call and we can work something out.

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
