School Lunch Isn’t Fixed But You Can Make Changes

Filed Under: America's Farm Table Tagged With: agriculture, kids, school lunch, sharing your voice 8 Comments

The headlines say school lunch has permanent changes to it that remove the limits of protein and grains that previously were mandated via Mrs. Obama’s push on the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. News media celebrated. Senators held press conferences to pat themselves on the back.  I called our local school. Without a return call back after a few…

Moments That Matter: Grandpa’s 89th Birthday

Filed Under: Family Values, Life in North Dakota Tagged With: birthdays, family, family fun 4 Comments

We were in the basketball stands last night on Grandpa’s 89th birthday. He and I had talked earlier in the day about game times and he had said on the phone, “As long I keep putting one foot in front of the other, I’ll be there.” He did just that, on foot in front of the other, like he has…

We had some small town Monday night for a good cause. Donkey Basketball.  You never have heard of it? You once saw it when you were a kid? I had never heard of it until I heard the donkeys were coming to our small town.  Why donkey basketball? There is always a need for numerous programs to fundraise. For the…

So This Is 35…The Happiest Years of My Life

But my parents were seemingly more successful and had better judgement than I do today. In the fifth grade, thinking about what I would be at age 35, I thought I would have…

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
