105 Years Old Today + Anika’s 1 Year Pictures

Miss Iris is celebrating her birthday today.  Just eight days before her 92nd birthday she walked to the hospital to visit me after I had given birth to Hunter. It was a surreal moment I remember thinking that my first born child was meeting my late great-grandfather’s sister, born in 1905.  Today in 2010, I am in awe of her….

Prairie Renovation: Cement Shed to Guesthouse

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota Tagged With: home, house building, North Dakota, Pinke Homes, prairie life 3 Comments

It was a lifelong dream for my husband to build a home with his father. Prior to us marrying, Nathan had gutted and remodeled a house over four years with his dad. Then we married. He sold that house, moved 200 miles into the house Hunter and I lived in and he remodeled that home for us. A major upheaval and…

It is the second edition of Wednesday’s 5 Tips For Efficient & Effective Working From Home I am limited on time because as I am typing this while I am not working from home. Nathan and I had a date night this past weekend. The kids stayed with Auntie Kirsti and Uncle Mike for 24 hours while we went to my friend and colleague, Susan, and her husband, Rodney’s farm and vineyard near Buffalo, ND. Red Trail Vineyard was host to the 5th annual North Dakota Grape and Wine Festival.  Our visit supported many…

Running Across North Dakota With Purpose

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota Tagged With: prairie life Leave a Comment

If I suggested that you and I run across North Dakota together, all 360 miles in 11 days and we were ages 34 and 65 would you think I was insane? Probably.  Even if we had just run the Fargo Marathon in May and were in running shape, it still sounds crazy, right?  Splitting the running across North Dakota between…

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
