Scholarship forms and applications don’t tell the whole story…

Filed Under: Motivated Moms Tagged With: kids, motherhood Leave a Comment

Words fill in the blanks on media relations forms for Hunter’s college football signing day tomorrow and scholarship applications he is submitting. I think of so many people who impacted what he is writing down on the paper. There is a small army of people and of course the words don’t really tell the story. Today Hunter is a student in…

Every last brings a first

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota, Motivated Moms Tagged With: kids, milestones, small town sports 1 Comment

Tonight we have a game in Medina, N.D. and tomorrow evening a game in Leola, S.D. Hunter has been struck with a flu bug so a few flares of prayer for his health and strength are appreciated. He’s in school this afternoon to be eligible to play and sitting with an empty stomach. Even when your baby is 18 years…

Happy 91st Birthday, Grandpa!

Filed Under: Family Values Tagged With: family, family farm, milestones 2 Comments

Today is my grandpa’s 91st birthday. He is celebrating by living in the same house he was born in on the rural North Dakota prairie in 1925, the house his father built in 1919. I have a longer tribute in my Agweek column but here is a shorter version with a few favorite pictures from the last year with my…

The Importance of a Loving Day Care Provider

Filed Under: Motivated Moms Tagged With: kids, motherhood, rural life, working mom 10 Comments

A home day care in our small town is closing this month after 27 years in business. Now, I’m not trying to start a debate about working outside the home and sending your kids to day care versus staying home with your kids. Day care is a reality for a vast majority of families, and in small towns such as…

Senior basketball season and twirling sisters

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota Tagged With: kids, small town sports Leave a Comment

Tonight we will travel to watch our fifth boys basketball game since New Year’s Day. Tomorrow there will be one more game before the boys basketball team has a week off. I am going to hit the road on Monday for a Minnesota speaking engagement and then zip home, without any winter weather hold ups I hope. Our first boys…

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
