A peek into our normal week

Filed Under: Family Values, Life in North Dakota, Motivated Moms Tagged With: family, prairie life, working mom 3 Comments

My sister over at LovelyLaLaLand has a weekly feature from her photo a day project for 2012. I love what she captures and highlights. I realized I take at least a photo every day but am not nearly as artistic or creative with my photos as her. I can’t comprehend being so organized to upload them to the blog. But this past week was a “normal” week in our new routine…it deserves documenting. I love normal. It’s always evolving. It’s always hectic. But it feels comfortable. Here’s a glimpse into a few daily photos I took on my new best friend, Miss iPhone.
My new job allows me flexibility. Some days I will work from home and others I will commute. As I get into the work flow I will get more of a set schedule. For now I commute most days and carpool. It was my goal to see the sunrise on the prairie and not on from an airplane. This has definitely happened over the last six weeks and I’m home in the late afternoon for plenty of family time.

This week was a favorite moment in my new job. I was on a local radio show and got to give a “shout out” to my grandpa who was listening 200 miles away.

There is a reason they are called Happy Meals.
On Thursday afternoon the girls and I met my parents at the half point in between the farm and our home. It just happens to be a town on the prairie with a McDonald’s. We live 80 miles from a McDonald’s and it’s a treat to have a Happy Meal for the girls.

Friday night was date night for teenager Hunter, Nathan and me. The guys drove to my office to see it for the first time and we headed to dinner and a movie.

Roasted beet salad with goat cheese

I loved my roasted beet and goat cheese salad so much that I might have to see if beets are easy enough for me to grow in our garden this year. I could eat this salad weekly.

Hunter ate medium rare North Dakota bison medallions. Nathan had grilled shrimp and I had fantastic walleye. We all shared. It was a fabulous night out for the three of us.

Yesterday afternoon I left behind unfolded clean laundry and the vacuum cleaner laying out at home to drive to the farm. We have not had a schedule. Both of my brothers have visited. This afternoon we walked over to see my grandparents. The fresh air was glorious. Tomorrow is a federal holiday for President’s Day. I am off from work. But it’s on our schedule to get to Hunter’s regional basketball game.

Tonight we have tired boots and tired girls. It’s a start to a new normal week.

What do you have on tap for your upcoming…normal week?

I like the peek into your week! Also love those iphone photos. We are off from school today and it is a nice sleep in/relaxing kind of day. Back at it tomorrow!

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
