2 Lil’ Fancy (Nancy) Farm Girls

Filed Under: America's Farm Table, Family Values Tagged With: agriculture, family, family farm, farming 6 Comments

Have you ever seen a fancy farm girl? On the North Dakota prairie, we have two little girls who love the Fancy Nancy book series. They have started weekly trips to our small town library to check out as many Fancy Nancy books as they can. Being fancy has rubbed off on the girls and our entire family. “Mama Jane” (aka Grandma who is my mom) debuted the girls’ fall/ winter original Fancy Nancy dresses this weekend while we were at GriggsDakota, creating giggles and glee from the fancy farm girls. (I am grateful my mom is a seamstress.)
The fancy farm girls mostly just wanted to combine in their Fancy Nancy dresses but it was too wet for the harvest to continue as much as the crew tried. The girls were ready though, fancy dresses, pink boas, cowgirl boots, make up and all. Instead of harvesting, we climbed around the combine in the yard.
And so it is from the combine, I present to you fancy farm girls…
Miss Elizabeth, age 3 and…not to be left behind…
Miss Anika, age 2. Fancy farm girls don’t just climb combines. They also climb trees.

Fancy farm girls tell fancy stories, laugh and dream alongside the lake. Their favorite line is “ohh lala” and use lines like…

“This pink boa is my accessory and it’s so posh!” But make no mistake…

fancy farm girls may be frilly and funny but they have wit and determination. They also never travel too far from the combine. They don’t want to be left behind…

when the combine gets fired up to go to the field. Fancy farm girls take their jobs very seriously.

We enjoyed a fabulous down time family weekend together as you can see. But I have a prayer request today for my blogger friend, Leontien, who is entering into a big battle against her second bout with cancer. Leontien and her husband are dairy farmers in Indiana and I have gotten to know her through blogging with The Real Farmwives of America. Please stop to give her some cheer and encouragement this week by visiting her blog and keep her in your daily prayers.

Tonight I’ll have my Wordless or Wordy Wednesday linky up to share and will certainly have some fresh and new pictures from our son’s football game today. And did I mention I have my first half an hour with a personal trainer since having the girls…today? There won’t be any pictures of that on this blog…ever.

What are you doing to enjoy a fancy day today? Make it a great one.

Those are some sweet, fancy farm girls. My friend has a daughter who is so concerned about being “fancy” on the farm that when she shows a Charolais that she wears bright colors so her pale skin won’t be “washed out”. And she is only 7 years old! lol

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
