For the past two weeks, our oldest two kids had two weeks with my mom who is fondly called Mama Jane by Hunter and Mayme by Elissa. Last night Mayme left us. Yes she went home. My dad and she arrived June 30 before Anika arrived, they brought the kids to the hospital to visit us, spent the 4th of July holiday with Hunter and Elissa at the farm and my mom was back here on July 5. For the past ten days, she grocery shopped, cooked multiple meals a day, did many, many loads of laundry, folded clothes, put them away, organized closets, attended numerous baseball games of Hunter’s and most of all she was a fabulous grandma to our kids, mother to me and mother in law, making it easy for Nathan to get his work done. She was up early each morning with our early riser Elissa and stayed up late with me visiting as I fed Anika. She strictly enforced me not doing very much of anything other than caring for Anika and she taught Elissa about “mommy’s turn to hold Anika or mommy’s turn to hold Elissa”. Taking turns is a great concept for a 19 month old to learn!
My mom tends to avoid the camera. But last night before she left I insisted on a picture with her and all three kids. Someday when our kids have children I will do the same for them as she has done for us. And I wanted to document this time the kids have spent with Mama Jane/ Mayme. We are grateful.
