Nothing says small town summer like…

Nothing says small town summer like…
a weekend spent at the local county fair.

Elissa’s first fair ride was on Lulu the pink elephant, followed by the boats. She rode both rides Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings! Hunter enjoyed “the bullet” ride. A bit more adventurous, spinning and flying through the air. But the Ferris wheel is not his style. He can do any ride at Disney World but when it comes to our local fair Ferris wheel, it makes Hunter sick. We ate greasy fair food with Gma Carol and Gpa Eldon on Friday night. It was so yummy. I recommend cheese fries. Hunter recommends Dakota nachos. Nathan highly recommends the “Tonner” burger which he said has “cholesterol oozing from it” but is so good. Uncles Joe and Robbie and Auntie Kirsti visited this weekend and took in the pitchfork steak fondue with us tonight.

We have raised Hereford cattle on our family farm since 1940 and instinctively our big girl found the Hereford cattle in the livestock barn, with only slight prompting from her mother. Maybe E will be showing Herefords in a few years with the local 4H club. Grandpa Sonny and Uncle Jim will need to road trip to see that event!

And nothing says small town summer like…
hot afternoons spent in the local swimming pool.
Yesterday Kirsti, Elissa, Hunter and Joe spent the afternoon at the pool. Anika and I walked over and watched. Today, Nathan, Elissa, Hunter and Joe spent time together swimming.
E wasn’t so interested in floating lessons from Daddy in the “big” pool. She preferred getting in and out of the baby pool on her own.

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
