It was a tremendous afternoon for Hunter. Despite a very delayed corn harvest which has tensions high on the farm, Grandpa Fred and Mama Jane made their grandson smile big when they showed up at his piano festival. It was a six hour round trip road trip for a five minute performance but of course absolutely worth it. Plus Auntie Kirsti was there with us. Baby E and Daddy stayed home. A vivacious eleven month old who needs a two hour nap every afternoon would not do well during multiple piano performances in an enclosed quiet music room.
Hunter earned a “Superior +” rating. The + was an extra bit of recognition from the judge who wrote in his comments that Hunter’s performance on “Fastest Piano in the West” was the best performance of the day. (Blogs are for bragging at times.) Truly though, 5th grade boys in piano lessons need encouragement to keep playing and this was that day for Hunter. We are proud of our piano player.
No video or flash photography during performances are allowed. Kirsti had her flash off and took some pictures I will post when I received them from her (hint to KRL). I told Hunter before he performed “Smile, have fun and take a deep breath before you start each song”. Then I whispered to make him smile “Get your game face on!” Hunter replied “Mom I always have my game face on”. My advice was for Hunter but also words for myself who inside was a jittery and giddy mom. I could have never taken no flash photography. My hands would have been shaking. No shaking for Hunter. He was confident and played great.
