Blessed are the peacemakers…who live in chaos

Filed Under: Family Values, Motivated Moms Tagged With: faith, motherhood, working mom 5 Comments

As I came downstairs for my first cup of (late) coffee today, the stark prairie was preparing for sunrise. I walked outside in freezing temperatures with my camera. It was frosty and peaceful. But I didn’t realize how this capture would relate to my day. Sunday mornings are mostly hectic rather than peaceful at our house.

We headed to church where Nathan and I teach pre-school Sunday school weekly where we are studying fruits of the spirit. The kids pretend to be trees except we aren’t growing apples, oranges or bananas. We are growing love, joy and today, peace.

Peace is a much talked about word when we listen to news stories about global politics but how many of us actually seek out to be peacemakers? How many of us are growing and sharing peace? Today as we talked about peace with kids aged 2-5, I realized I should make sure I work to be a peacemaker myself rather than just talk about it to young children.

We have children from ages two to teenager in our home. Chaos not peace is most often in our lives. Even as I type this Miss A is screeching while Miss E is crying from Miss A pinching her. I know and I’m typing. They are right next to me though. Miss A will tell you she doesn’t push or hit. “I just bite.” And now she can add pinching to repertoire. She’s an active non-peaceful girl.
Sneak peek for tomorrow’s Hunk of Meat Monday…in the plastic bag are the makings of Ginger Garlic Chicken Wings and Buffalo Chicken Wings.
Then there is the teenager of the house. I am so thankful my mom didn’t have a blog to document my teenage years. I was anything but peaceful. Hunter hasn’t created chaos yet unless you count trying to complete a science fair project. But parenting a teenager gives me ulcers more than peace.
My overall take away from the pre-school Sunday school lesson today? The Bible verse was “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” Matthew 5:9.
In order for me to be a peacemaker I need to take moments and time to find peace in my surroundings and daily life. Rather than reacting immediately to a chaotic family moment, I need to draw from within to find a bit of the peace I felt watching the sunrise this morning.
Because I know even peacemakers who live in chaos are blessed. Where do you find peace?

I find peace in silence…and that is wherever I can get it! Reading late at night gives me some peace, as do walks on our farm. Parenting is some hectic work.

Silence is peaceful. As is music.

Gorgeous photo. Hope you all have a blessed week. ♥

Chaos is my middle name. And I’m trying to make our home more peaceful. Some days go better than others. Today I had to remind Mr.9 yr old that family dance party time does not equal wrestlemania. Seriously, we have this discussion every night!

I’m with you on the chaos! Someone is always screeching in our house too. I find peace when I’m making something, doing something with my hands, and totally engrossed in the project. I find it helps create peace in the house if I can keep my kids engrossed in a project of their own that they really enjoy. Yesterday I worked on paper mache projects with 4-Hers for 3 hours and I couldn’t believe how quickly the time flew by!

Wow, that’s your view? Lucky ducky. Tonight, I found peace in some Mozart on the kitchen CD player, a big pot of homemade bean soup, and a big glass of red wine to match. 😉

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
