Today Hunter ventured off to his first day of junior high and is starting 7th grade. He goes to a school where grades K-12 are all in one building. He has about twenty kids in his entire class, most of who started together in kindergarten with Hunter joining them in 4th grade. We know every classmate and teacher. They attend church with us, a few are neighbors, others are friends. At times that intense closeness can make you crazy but when I travel away from the prairie and hear stories of other school environments, I am always grateful for our small, remote school.
This was our best attempt at taking pictures of all three kids together on Hunter’s first day of 7th grade.
6’0″ tall and tomorrow he will turn 13 years old! His shoe size is a 13 1/2. Last night he came home from football practice and ate six of the slider hamburgers I had made for supper. He rated them an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10. He is easy to please and eats more than Nathan. You can find the recipe here from the Pioneer Woman.
Can you tell which one is our strong-willed two year old? Miss E was not in a mood to take a picture this morning.
Even quiet Anika was on the move.
Regardless, Hunter was all smiles. He has his folders and notebooks organized and is sure he can get his combination to work on his locker. Of course a majority of the kids do not use locks on their lockers in our little school. But day one, Hunter is going to try.
It is surreal to think I was taking Hunter to his first day of 1st grade what seems like just a few years ago and in that same amount of time we will be taking him to college. I am going to wipe my tears now and enjoy today!
