Why Midwesterners LOVE Jello!

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota Tagged With: Jell-O, midwesterners, North Dakota, prairie life 3 Comments

I am traveling for business tonight. Only this time I have a travel partner…and my favorite one at that: my husband. While I work he has a packed schedule of activities planned with a friend which will be a much needed break and vacation for him. And we might even get to have a real and rare date together.
Today was a whirlwind busy day and thus I don’t have new pictures to post or time to write out our adventures. But I will soon.
For now you can jump over here and check out my mom’s FABULOUSLY accurate and funny blog post on our love for Jello. If you are not from the Midwest, you probably do not know that Jello is a staple in our diet, especially farm families. I have been known to mock our love of Jello. But my grandma’s Cherry Coke Jello definitely is in my top ten favorite foods! Jello is a part of our culture and I love how my mom captured that today. Feel free to leave her a comment.
And then go make yourself a Jello “salad”.

Cherry Coke Jello is a family favorite for us too! It is one of those “must have’s” that is on the table every Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and every Anfinrud family gathering. We pile it on our plates so high, there’s barely room for the turkey!

Count me in as another person with the Cherry Coke Jello Salad recipe in their recipe box.
It goes great with any dinner – the only change I have made was omitting the extra sugar.

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
