Anika Iris, 8 months

Filed Under: Misc. Tagged With: milestones 4 Comments

Anika Iris is 8 months old today.
And in our usual monthly fashion as we took her picture with her “hop hop” that her Daddy bought for her when she was born.
In the past short month, two things I thought for sure would happen any day a month ago still have not happened: crawling and teeth.
Anika scoots anywhere and everywhere. She’ll get up on her knees and rock, rock, rock but then gets back down and pulls herself around with her arms. Mostly Anika is content. She has life going on all around her so she is happy to sit back and watch it happen.

Anika has been drooling like she is going to cut a tooth for four months. Now her top and bottom gums look like she might pop teeth all at once when they come. Either way, teeth or no teeth Anika’s appetite is tremendous. She eats big bowls of fruit and cereal, veggies and cereal and couple bottles during the day. Anika isn’t picky about the type of food, green beans, peas, sweet potatoes, squash, carrots and fruit of any type…but they need to be warm, just to the right temperature for our girl.
My biggest accomplishment with our baby girl in the last month was that through the most chaotic business travel of my life I kept nursing. If you are my brother and are absolutely disgusted by the thought of this than do not read on but if you are a busy mommy, you know what I am referencing. You understand that having that time with your baby is unique and the health benefits for a baby are the best. It is what I do for Anika. But it is a challenge and work to keep going. It has been my goal to not change the basics of what I would do if I was a stay at home mom. Therefore being a nursing, baby food making mom is still a part of who I am as a mother and the most important and rewarding “job” I will ever have.
A grand accomplishment of the past month also for Anika has been SLEEP. Anika was born a sleeper. But in late November she started waking more often during the night. We chalked it up as a growth spurt that lasted months! Now, for the past week, Anika has been going to bed at 7:30PM and almost every night sleeping all night. Lovely. Lovely. Lovely. Matter of fact, I need to go wake her as soon as I finish this post.
Now if Anika can train her two year old sister to sleep as well as she does at night we will be rested.
Happy 8 months Anika! (or as Hunter said today “Happy 2/3 of a year!”)
We love you so much. You are the delight of our every day. You are loved on, kissed, hugged and held by your brother and sister every day. Daddy and I love how you cuddle and snuggle with us too.
And your patience is remarkable. We love seeing your personality develop and watching you grow into such a sweet and happy girl.

I think I was checking Lucas’ mouth for two months saying that those teeth would pop any day now. Last week he got 3 teeth in less than a week!

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
