104 year old librarian

Our baby girl Anika Iris sat down to read a story with her namesake, Iris this past weekend.
Great Aunt Iris is 104 years old was a teacher and then a librarian for 40 plus years. She graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1928 and retired from her school librarian job in the early 1970’s. I have raved about her before and will again today. Iris never ceases to amaze me with her memory. Plus her sense of humor and quick wit is tremendously amusing.
Iris is a literary whiz but is losing her eyesight.
But that lack of eyesight did not matter to Anika on Saturday.
Anika was content to have our special librarian flip the pages and comment on the bright pictures of “Freddy the Fire Engine” which made Iris glow. She was thrilled to share a book with our sweet baby. Iris’s calm demeanor and description of the images she could see had Anika enthralled.
And then it was nap time in Daddy’s lap.

The photo of A looking at Iris is absolutely priceless… it certainly says a 1000 words – or more. A framer – for sure!

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
