In the new season, the sun still rises and sets

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota Tagged With: North Dakota, prairie life 4 Comments

Each morning I drive to Bismarck, I try to capture a sunrise. Sunrise is later now, a sign of a new season upon us. Sometimes I am talking to my mom on the phone while I do it. I pull off the road to be safe. But these are taken on my iPhone and edited on there also. This morning…

A visit to the 9/11 Memorial: Move forward. Never forget.

Just over a month ago I visited the 9/11 Memorial.  You can read about my visit and why I think every American should visit if given the opportunity. Today I pause to honor the 2,985 lives lost 11 years ago today on American soil. Every life had a story that impacted families forever.   This past weekend, my husband and I…

Ranch wedding with German food & a team of horses

The girls and I got all gussied up in our best boots for a ranch wedding of friends yesterday afternoon.  My friend Sarah was the photographer at the wedding and borrowed by camera for her husband to use as a second camera. So I snapped away this weekend on my iPhone and had quite fun editing on the phone. The…

Living in a fly over state

Tonight my friend Megan and I were outside watching our kids play. All of the sudden Miss A was shouting at the sky. Her friend Miss K immediately stopped to look up to see what Miss A spotted. In her booming 3 year old voice, Anika said, “Yook at the dah big ahplane! Big high in the sky!” And Miss…

Where Non-GMO pinto beans are grown

Filed Under: America's Farm Table, Family Values Tagged With: agriculture, family, family farm, where my food comes from 9 Comments

With fall soon upon us I start thinking about Fall Food (which I even created a Pinterest board about last year.) Fall gets me to restart meal planning after a hap hazard summer. I love easy Crock-Pot meals like Chili or even side dishes like the Baked Beans I made this past weekend.  Dumping cans of beans into a slow cooker gets me…

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
