17 topics rural rockin’ working moms talk about…

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota, Motivated Moms Tagged With: friendship, girlfriends, North Dakota, prairie women, rural life, working mom 3 Comments

A lightning flash quick trip on business to the west coast had me in Sacramento for a night and I had dinner available to spend time with friends. A couple text messages and suddenly two favorite California friends are on their way to see me. What 17 topics did we cover off on in a few hours over dinner? No wonder we get so much in a day. Over the course of a few hours we had things figured out for careers, our kids, daycares, husbands, and more. Oh yes much more like…
Colleen, myself and Sharlene

Breast feeding, pumping in airports, on the way to meetings, at meetings.
Shoes…flats, high heels, name brand and knock offs.
Running shoes, whether to wear them or not.
Exercise or not. A trainer or not. A treadmill or not.
A living trust or a will or nothing at all.
Dating. Marriage. Husbands. Daughters. Sons. Babies to teenagers.
College loans. College days.
Feeding our family.
Home day cares. Nannies.
Stay at home moms. Part time working moms. Full time working moms.
Cleaning ladies. Suffering with out a cleaning lady.
Coffee. Tea. Starbuck’s. No Starbuck’s.
Working for agriculture associations. Working for not for profits. Working for agencies.
Working from home. Working in an office.
Corporate America.
Small business owners.
Living rural. Living in the city. Living in suburbia.
Building a house. Buying a house. Renting a house.
Saving. Spending. Slush fund.
And our favorite line…is how Rural Women Rock. Whether we’re city folk or country folk, we love rural issues, farmers and have a passion for rural.

Is that more than 17 topics? Maybe. We covered it all last tonight. You might do the same with your girlfriends. In the midst of chaos of raising family while managing a career, I am so thankful for a few hours of down time to unwind and rejuvenate myself mid-week with two women that I simply describe as true friends.

Love the talking points. I feel like I could make these into flash cards and then whenever I needed a topic to discuss I would whip one of these out!

Terrific! Where would we be without our gal pals? Funny how the topics are ones we all seem to have in common.

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
