Elissa is in week two of her first-ever swimming lessons at our local pool on the prairie. She is in the “Tadpoles” group of beginning swimmers. There is another two year old in the group and it is her good friend, Claire. Together they are quite a team.
The water is frigid as the park board is having trouble getting the pool heater fixed. Cloudy or sunny, windy or not, the kids have lessons each morning for thirty minutes. Elissa has learned about bravery by plunging herself into the cold water. She has also learned bribery. “Mommy if I get in the water, can you take me to the store and buy pony fruit snacks?” We now have a box of My Little Pony fruit snacks at our house.
Tomorrow I will try to remember to bring my camera and take more pictures but the above picture I took on my phone this morning gives you a glimpse of our brave girl doing one of favorite swimming activities, jumping. Yes, jumping off the diving board into the deep end of water. She can’t swim but she will jump and go down the slide solo with no fear.
Does this surprise anyone?
