It’s her birthday

Please note: special guest contributor/ BLOG HIJACKER:  Nathan Pinke
Tonight we celebrated Katie’s 31st Birthday complete with 2 birthday cakes!  The cake on the left was created by our friend Katie LaBree as a part of the birthday plans we had with the LaBree family this evening.  The LaBree’s are celebrating the first birthday of their son Ethan.  Katie LaBree unfortunately is a bit under the weather today so our evening plans were postponed but the lovely cake she prepared in our Katie’s honor was delivered anyway.   The cake on the right is my attempt of a birthday cake from a recpie I pulled off the internet.  Under the carefully placed #’s 3&1 is a butter cream frosting and a chocolate cherry chip cake.
Miss E is always willing to lend a hand when candles need to be blown out and as you can see there are quite a few candles that needed her attention.  We enjoyed a gourmet meal of pizza with my parents as we watched Hunter and Elizabeth help Katie open her presents.
Miss Anika Iris Kathryn thought that in honor of Mommy’s birthday she would sit up on her own for the first time.  She especially enjoys her peek and play birdhouse and birds that santa brought her, you can see her taking a careful look at the plumage of this fine avian.  I wonder if she will ever take Ornithology?
Today after school I received a call from my dear wife that the city school bus (which has run for now 3 days) is stuck in our driveway before even reaching the house.  I quickly responded with the Bobcat to move some of the snow off of the road and then my father came in behind me with his pickup and pulled the bus out of the pile it had driven into.
Rescue Complete
Setting his alarm extra early, Hunter started the day off on the right track by making a special sandwich of canadian bacon for his mother on her birthday…bacon only because we were out of eggs.  Miss Elizabeth complimented Hunter and said “good bacon Hunter”!
I would like to wish my wife a very happy birthday and look forward to creating and sharing many more memories in the years to come.  Who knows I might even get another opportunity to highjack the blog and do my own post again!!!
Love ya KAT

How fun Nathan!!! You should hijack the blog more often…I laughed at your correct use of the word “avian”…very scientific of you…and also laughed at your life on the prairie incident and that you and your dad were able to pull the bus out of your driveway…too funny! I hope you enjoyed your birthday, Katie…love you!!!!

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
