I experienced white knuckle driving last night as I spent most of my drive from the airport driving 30 mph. And it was not due to the heavy traffic on the roads. There is no rush hour on the prairie. The temperatures are way below average from our normal fall temperatures. Even on the prairies aka frozen tundra we usually have fall weather right now and not WINTER. But rain turned to ice and snow last night. It made for a long, treacherous drive. Lovely. I was thankful for a cell phone and XM radio. I was not going to continue XM after our 90 day free trial was up but it pretty much sold me last night. Numerous music and talk radio options are handy to have in a snow storm and kept me occupied and entertained for two and half hours it took me to get home. But HOME felt good after that drive!
This morning Hunter and Elizabeth got to try out their new winter clothes. Good thing I bought winter coats on sale in the summer so we had them ready for October snow. That obviously is not what I had planned but the bargains came in handy today.
Hunter went out onto the porch and made Elizabeth her first snowball of the season. She was not sure what to make of it and decided it looked good enough to eat.
My mom stayed last night due to the snow was getting ready to give Hunter a ride to school this morning while Elizabeth was exploring around the snow covered pumpkins and flower pots. Suddenly we had a run away and Mama Jane came to the rescue much to E’s disappontment.
Our high school football team is playing a home game tonight for the conference championship. Hunter is very excited to go to the game. The snow will be melted mostly but it will be muddy, very muddy and cold. Of course Hunter was dreaming this morning of how he wished he was playing tonight and how “awesome” it would be. He is 110% boy. Playing football in the snow, mud and cold. Seriously awesome.
Miss Anika was sleeping this morning while her siblings were frolicking in the snow. But she is like her mommy and likes the warmth of the house. Daddy has had the fireplace going since last night and the house is toasty warm and cozy. I actually am wearing a new ski sweater Nathan bought me last year for Christmas. I had saved it last winter (when I was pregnant and would have turned it into a maternity sweater) to wear instead this winter and dug it out this morning. A new sweater to wear on a cold day is a treat but I would prefer it to be a cold December day, not OCTOBER.
Our sweet baby girl is growing and changing daily now. I think she grew in short time I was gone this week. She coos, sings and “talks” to us now. And she is smiley. So really…healthy and smiley kids are the best and I can just deal with this yucky weather. Because happy kids make snow…fun even if it is in October.
This winter weather has me pondering a gardening question. If it indeed warms up into the 60’s this weekend like our reliable weathermen are saying, can I still plant my bulbs? Those bulbs are my hope for spring!

Your kids are adorable and I just love that Hunter is such a wonderful big brother. The snowball picture of him and Elizabeth is priceless. Although I am not liking this snow that we have been getting. The kids like it though!! I rather enjoy the warm house too.
