I am behind on blogging about our full week of activities while we stayed at the farm last week. Every day was jammed packed. Over the next couple days I will catch up as I have numerous photos and stories to post.
One day last week my mom, sister, Elizabeth, Anika and I drove to Fargo for some bridal shopping for Kirsti. Rather than having Elizabeth bouncing off the walls at the bridal store, for a couple hours she stayed with our longtime friends Beth (who I refer to as my big “sis”) and her three sons, Christian, Noah and Parker . The boys really missed Hunter but were great friends to Elissa. They had Elmo toys set and ready to play with plus on our way to their house I stopped and got Elissa a Dairy Queen kids meal which treated her to an array of junk food to eat at Beth’s kitchen table. I do not buy hot dogs but Elizabeth has eaten enough of them at baseball games to know they are yummy. Hot dogs are my ace in the hole when I need to do a little bribing. I managed to leave her with only a couple of tears and she loved her hot dog. Most of all she loved her play time with Beth and the boys! Parker was a baby when Hunter and Christian started kindergarten together. Time flies. Now he is missing his two front teeth and was a superb baby holder!
Smiling faces! (We sure miss you Hunter.)
We left a space next to Christian, behind Beth to have Kirsti edit the photo and put Hunter right into it. This is the unedited version. I do not have time for editing photos but maybe Auntie Kirsti can do this for us!
Our day in Fargo was a success. Kirsti ordered her stunning wedding dress, showed me the bridesmaid dresses she had picked out which I gave my stamp of approval to (provided I lose baby weight!) and we looked at flower girls dresses. We did it all in less than an hour and had time for a quick lunch at an old favorite spot of mine in downtown Fargo. Living on the prairie has its many benefits and pluses. But I do miss my downtown office and lunches so it was especially fun to be there again eating my favorite egg salad sandwich.
After our bridal shopping and quick visit with Beth, I “had” to stop at Gymboree and was able to meet friend Jennie nearby in the mall for a latte. We laughed especially hard together when my mom chased after Elizabeth to the large decorative water fountains in the mall. Some kids were throwing pennies into the water. But Miss E wanted to go swimming in the water. Thankfully she cannot climb up the wall yet and jump in…but watch out, it might happen some day.

We also were in Grand Forks for a day of shopping and visiting last week. Elissa, Anika and I took in…ELMO LIVE with our friends Laura and Brady who generously had offered us tickets. Thankfully, Laura’s family has a box at the events center which was the best because we had our toddlers corralled into one confined space! Brady is just three weeks younger than Elizabeth. So the Elmo show was their first date, with parental chaperones of course and that will not be changing…ever. I left my camera in the car but will post some pictures of Laura’s when I receive them. Elmo Live was like taking Elizabeth to her first rock concert. She shrieked with glee, clapped and said “Oh WOW!” and “Oh yeah!” numerous times. She cheered loud for Ernie and Elmo who I taught her at a young age were on her diapers. Then she learned they are also on PBS each morning from 7-8AM. In a weak moment last spring I let her watch her first television which was the classic Sesame Street so I could ready for work. From that moment her love for Ernie and Elmo started and has grown immensely! (She still has no annoying Elmo dolls and does not watch other television other than her favorite “Ehnie and Elmo” and not every day. So please do not come after with emails telling me how horrible it is that she watches a little television at a young age.)
After Elmo, we met up with my parents and brother Joe. My mom and Joe went on a stroll around the mall with the girls while my dad and went testing driving vehicles. If you read on this blog about the long vehicle purchasing debate we have been having in our household plus adding my dad into the mix made for an eventful and memorable time. I will hold you in suspense until later this week for the full story. After our testing driving, we did two quick visits. One of our visits in Grand Forks was to the Millette’s with out Dr. Keith who was working. “Auntie” Rennae was anxious to meet Anika and see our growing Elizabeth. Both Millette boys Eric and Paul did some baby holding and their neighbor and our friend Lisa also came over to join in on the visiting.
That Auntie Rennae is always fun and entertaining!
Our other visit in Grand Forks was a special meeting between Baby Anika Iris and Great Great Great Aunt Iris, who is less than one month away from her 104th birthday. Pictures of that meeting will be in my next post. It was a visit that we will always cherish.
