Big brother love

Three weeks ago…Hunter went to visit his family in Washington and before he left we took this picture. And three weeks later, he is home. We put Anika in the same dress (cherry print which I have always loved!) to show how much she had changed.
Elizabeth greeted Hunter on the porch with shouts of joy and glee and she would not let him out her sight for the rest of the day. She was dressed and ready to go to the pool with Hunter and Auntie Lori. As you can see she was not up for picture taking but thrilled to see her big brother. Hunter flew home on the red eye flight after a family wedding and then had a drive from the Fargo airport to home. He was exhausted but that did not stop him from swimming at the pool, having his favorite meal at Gma Carol’s house with our family and then going to shoot baskets with his buddies Noah and Jacob last night. I am trying to let him sleep this morning despite Elissa shouting at me “Hunter UP!”.

Hunter noticed a few changes around home. In order he said, “Anika’s cheeks are bigger. Elizabeth’s talking is crazy (translated from 6th grader speak to she is talking more) and Mom’s hair”. Yes his first words to me were “Mom’s what’s up with the hair?”. Then ten minutes later he said “Mom when is that going away?” (referring again to my hair color!)
He also laughed that we had added the Odyssey and a double stroller to our family!

I slept so much better last night having all of our kids home, under one roof. We have a week to enjoy summer and get ready for the first day of school which is looming on the calendar next week. Two family birthdays are also on the docket!
Family members…we would not want my dad to forget he turns double nickels this Friday! You can send him greetings or go to the Griggs Dakota blog and leave a comment. He will most likely be celebrating by harvesting barley. And the second day of school next Thursday Hunter James turns twelve!

In a few of these pictures Elizabeth really looks like you. Must be the new haircut.

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
