Up with the owl

A quick peek at our smiling children around 7:45AM earlier this week…Hunter ready for school, Elizabeth ready for a nap? Indeed. Elizabeth returned to her old ways of being an early, early riser. No more “sleeping in” until 7AM for her. We have a huge owl that lives nearby and around 5AM I sometimes hear him “hoo hoo hooing” and then I doze back off to sleep. For a couple mornings early this week, soon after the “hooing”, I now hear “MAMA MAMA! NUMMY NUMMY!” coming from Elizabeth’s bedroom. Translated to, “Mom I am awake for the day and ready for my breakfast–now!” I do not bound for her bedroom. Instead Prince Daddy half way in his deep slumber fog comes to the rescue. He brings her into our bedroom and she once again declares “Num Num”. The declaration has been made at that point. We are up for the day, soon downstairs eating breakfast, up with the owl. Only the owl is soon going to sleep for the day, Elissa takes a mid-morning nap and parents we get the short end of the stick, no nap.

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
