Hunter is interested in politics and has been following the campaigning for over a year. We teach him to understand issues and then choose who he supports based on what he believes in and agrees with… as best as he understands it. The past few weeks, he actually debated me on who to vote for the North Dakota Insurance Commissioner which is a race that still this morning is too close to call.
Hunter prayed every night for John McCain to win the presidential race. He told us his entire class voted for McCain on their sample ballots which he credited to “McCain being more for hunting than Obama”. (Amazing what is most important to 5th graders in rural ND!) But despite his intense support for McCain/ Palin, this morning Hunter came downstairs for breakfast and reminded me of something he heard from former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani last night on television. Giuliani said something like “If Obama is elected tonight, we all need come together tomorrow and support our next president because if he fails, we fail”. Hunter summed it up to me this morning by saying “Today is the day we all have to be Americans”.
My eyes welled up with tears because I was so proud of him for understanding what it means to be an American. Whether you supported Obama or not, we as Americans all need to come together now. If Obama fails, our country fails. And now Hunter will pray for Obama.

In order for this country to create real solutions to the problems we face, we need to come together and be Americans. Not whites vs. blacks or Republicans vs. Democrats.
Just solid Americans.
Thanks to our 5th grade son for reminding me of this today.

Personally, if things start going down the tubes (ummm, more down the tubes) I’m thinking of moving to Alaska and joining that party that wants Alaska to become their own country (that Todd Palin used to be a member of). There’s plenty of room for everyone in Alaska.

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
