Friendly Friday Visit From Big Horn Sheep

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota Tagged With: North Dakota, prairie, prairie life, rural life 9 Comments

As we drove 705 miles home from Big Sky, Montana to the North Dakota prairie this week, we stopped along the way for some fresh air and to take in the Montana scenery.
Nothing to unusual about our roadside stop and photo…
until we noticed snow falling onto the road. Nathan thought a rock was falling. The teenager was too busy getting his I-Pod on to notice.
It wasn’t a rock but instead some friendly big horn sheep coming down from the mountains for a visit.
The big horn sheep weren’t concerned by my photo taking but my husband wasn’t too keen on me getting too close. My new lens helped capture these photos.
We waved farewell to our friendly Montana big horn sheep and set back on our trek across Montana to the North Dakota prairie.
Along the way, despite the frigid Arctic weather, we saw antelope basking in the sun shine in snowy fields. We spotted a lone buffalo in Theodore Roosevelt National Park and as we got closer to home, herds of whitetail deer forging through corn fields.
Friendly winter visits despite the cold and snow are quite memorable.
What are your favorite road side sightings?

Happy Friday!

To be honest i love all the road side sightings here in The States. It still suprises me that i can drive 20 minutes and come upon a road that i haven’t driven on in the 4 years that we are living here and just absolutely love what i’m seeing… It’s a beautiful country

    Thanks!

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
