Take action when a weapon is brought to school

Any concerned citizens of Wishek, please call the school and ask for a public meeting. We deserve to be informed and public safety needs to be a priority. Nathan and I have emailed, called and then met with the elementary principal and superintendent today. We then took our kids home with us. We both have spoken to our school board…

We are selling our North Dakota lake home on the prairie, perfectly located for fishing, upland game, and bird hunting. It includes five acres around Green Lake, seven miles southeast of Wishek along with our cabin and 14′ of lakeshore for a dock and lake access. The two campers are sold separately but also available. It’s a new chapter for…

Wishek pre-school letter to the editor

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota, Motivated Moms Tagged With: prairie life, rural life, sharing your voice

Rural, public education is a passion for our family and has been for generations. Today in our small town newspaper, The Wishek Star, my husband, Nathan, has a letter to the editor, following our public pre-school being cut for the school year last week, the week before school begins. I’m sharing it below for those who aren’t subscribers to read.   To…

Happy “Golden” Birthday, Hunter!

On August 20, 1997, at 3:14 p.m. via c-section, my first-born, Hunter James entered the world.  I didn’t know it at the time as an 18-year-old new mother but Hunter was the first best decision of my life. I’ve told him that many times. He gave me purpose, a footing in life and direction when I needed it most. Now, it’s…

A marriage from 1975

Filed Under: Family Values Tagged With: family, marriage, milestones 1 Comment

A long marriage is rare in America. I think it’s worth pausing to celebrate the healthy, long marriages in our lives. Today my parents celebrate 42 years of marriage. They share a relationship my husband and I have often looked to as an example to model in our own marriage. My mom through the years has blogged with thousands of pictures on…

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
