2014 On the Prairie Calendar from Katie Pinke

“The rawness of a sun-kissed North Dakota prairie orchestrates my day. In the still of the early morning, my eyes scan the east for the first hint of the gentle canary rays. At the end of the day, my eyes are drawn westward to behold the fiery ring explode into the horizon. For those fleeting minutes, I stop and inhale the vast beauty before me.

My love for the North Dakota prairie is five generations deep. In the midst of a unique growth spurt, I’m encouraged by the land, her people and ultimately the future. In my community, where most of these images were captured, we only have one preschool option. State funding is not currently available, so through parental and community support we are hoping to raise $7,000 or more annually to underwrite a two-half-day-per-week preschool program for 20 students.

All proceeds from this calendar will directly fund the Wishek Public Preschool. By purchasing this calendar, you are now a part of the North Dakota prairie, whether you’re a neighbor or live far, far away. Thank you for supporting the next generation on the North Dakota prairie.” -2014 On The Prairie calendar

Disclosure of a busy mom: I had great intentions of having this much requested calendar of my North Dakota prairie sunrise and sunset photos ready to sell in early October. My friend, Sharon, volunteered to design it and had it ready for me. But life got in the way with a few things  I was not expecting. In the midst of life’s curveballs, I didn’t get the calendar to the printer. Then, my friend Katie H. stepped in to help me find my words to describe this calendar and we added a letter at the end of the calendar which you read above that tied on a bow on it for me. After that, yet another friend, Brenda got it to a printer for me and coordinated for it to arrive this week. Today the calendars are arriving. I am grateful for the friendship and time each of these women gave to this project.

If you are interesting in purchasing a calendar, you can email me katpinke@gmail.com. They are $15 each plus $3 for shipping. You can pay via PayPal or send me a check for $18 per calendar with shipping included. Locally, I will have them for sale in my family’s small business, Pinke Lumber and Wishek Drug. All proceeds will go to the Wishek Public Preschool.

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
