It’s Fall. Football season. Our teenager’s days are long with school and practice. But in between 9th grade classes and football, Hunter is active in our local FFA chapter as well as band and taking piano lessons. I’ve shared before about what is behind the FFA blue jackets. It’s an organization that our family believes in for our next generation to learn not just about agriculture but to learn true leadership for the future.
As 9th graders all FFA members memorize the FFA Creed. The words are powerful.

My friend Erin Ehnle beautifully designed the FFA Creed into five visuals. I shared them with Hunter and over the last couple weeks as he was working in the evenings on memorizing the creed, he used them. He held them up on his iPad and practiced in his bedroom. Once in awhile he came into the living room to say the FFA Creed for Nathan and me.
Yesterday at school Hunter said the FFA Creed in front of his teacher/advisor and fellow chapter members. In a couple weeks he will compete in the FFA District Leadership. His goal is to be in the top two and advance to the state competition for the FFA Creed. Regardless of any competition or results, what I care about most are the words of the creed and Hunter learning to live them out in his life.
Today Hunter came home from school to eat before he is off to his home football game. I was in my home office working and took a break to visit with him. He stood in the living room to say his memorized FFA Creed to me. I held up my iPhone and recorded him and with his permission am sharing it because I know my Grandpa Sonny and Grandma Nola are going to beam with joy, and maybe wipe a tear when they see and hear.
Because we all believe in the future of agriculture.
Listen to the words. What line stands out the most to you?
My favorite that I think applies to what I strive for in my life:
“I believe in leadership from ourselves and respect from others. I believe in my own ability to work efficiently and think clearly..”

I can’t get over how deep and dynamic his voice is. Methinks he’s got the charisma and public speaking capabilities of his mother. (Well, with a much deeper voice.)

Your son is an awesome speaker. I have never heard that before, and after hearing him speak, I feel real good about our country’s future with the next generation in farming. Good Luck to Hunter!

As a former FFA member… I think you have a possible State Creed Speaker on your hands. I hope he takes advantage off all the opportunities FFA has to offer. It’s amazing the doors and possibilities it can open for one.
