Our Favorite Farmer, Grandpa Fred

Filed Under: Family Values Tagged With: daddy, family, fatherhood 6 Comments

My favorite boot wearing farmer has a birthday today. It is my dad. I’ve said before that I’ve been trying to fill his big boots for decades. He’s witty. Ruthless at times. Generous. Often running behind schedule, a trait I inherited. Appreciative.
A man of deep faith and commitment. A small businessman turned farmer in GriggsDakota.
Aside from my dad being our favorite farmer, he is also a superb grandpa to our kids and a father-in-law to my husband that has formed a strong friendship.

“Grandpa Fred” as our kids call him has calmed through the years than when I remember when him as a regimented father to me. Age has turned him into a jovial grandfather.
He is a grandfather who teaches, one who sits in our kitchen on late nights after basketball games to draw out how our son can beat a tough offense or defense he hasn’t seen before.
My dad was the mastermind behind our DisneyWorld vacation last winter, the one who planned our detailed itinerary from afar so we didn’t have to worry about where to eat or what show to go to next. It was all done for us months ahead of time with lodging paid for by my parents. Yes, an ideal vacation.
But of all attributes of my dad, my favorite thing is how much he loves my mom. I don’t know another couple that have endured and triumphed together as my parents have in 37 years of marriage. My parents’ mutual respect, commitment and love for one another spilled over onto our family, giving us all an example to strive for in a strong marriage.
Happy Birthday Dad aka Grandpa Fred! We love you.

A dad who plans vacations? I think that totally rocks! My dad used to do that too when we went on major excursions. What a great hero to have in your heart and life. Trying to catch up with everyone not that the girls are back in school for the second day, and I have my first morning to myself. Thank goodness for Instagram so I can keep up with you!

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
